Theft Crimes:

In Pennsylvania, theft crimes vary from relatively minor retail theft matters to more serious offenses involving embezzlement of large sums of money. One of the considerations that may affect whether a theft is a misdemeanor offense versus a felony is the value of the item or currency that was stolen. Theft crimes involving higher values of goods or money typically carry more significant consequences than theft crimes involving lesser amounts.

Properly preparing a defense to a theft charge involves careful attention to the facts alleged by the Prosecution. It is essential that the State be made to prove all the elements of the theft beyond a reasonable doubt. Where a theft charge is based on sparse evidence that is not substantiated by credible witnesses, it is imperative that the weaknesses of the State’s case be exposed.

Since thefts can occur in a variety of settings, and can be accomplished in many ways, the prosecution will creatively try to prove their case by producing any evidence they have to substantiate their theories. Likewise, it is necessary for you to have competent, knowledgeable counsel who will fight for you and ensure that you are aggressively defended.
